Now is the time for the utmost vigilance…

Mark 7:14-15, 21 Then he called the crowd again and said to them, ‘Listen to me, all of you, and understand: there is nothing outside a person that by going in can defile, but the things that come out are what defile.’ For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come.

“My beloved, you are assaulted daily by the sinful ways of this wicked age. Where can you go that your eyes are not assaulted by what is offensive? My child, do all you can to avoid these things, and guard against letting these things take root in your heart. What is passively seen is not sinful—what is actively dwelt upon is a grave danger. If it takes root in your heart, it will be a great struggle for you to uproot it. Now is the time for the utmost vigilance. Ask your holy angel to protect you. Place the Cross of Christ before and behind you—let it surround you. Confess often. Children, this is an age filled with grave spiritual danger. Offer all you can in the Divine Will for the sake of those who have let their guard drop. They are many, and even within the Church! I am much offended. Pray!”

O my dear Father, I am heartily sorry for my part in your offendedness. In the Divine Will, through the Flame of Love, I repent of any lack of vigilance on my part. In your infinite mercy, send your holy angels to keep me from grave sin—from all sin! I ask all this in the Divine Will, through the Flame of Love, on behalf of everyone from Adam to the last man. Lord Jesus, have mercy on us all! For the sake of His sorrowful passion, Lord God, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Amen.

Fatima Novena October 4-12…

Blessings dear friends. I call to mind the message of September 4, which called us to “retreat to the tabernacle of (our) hearts and pray for the coming of the kingdom, for the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart, for the conversion of sinners, and for reparation to be made to (the Lord’s) much-wounded heart”.  I leave it to each of you to decide how our Lady may be calling you to pray in preparation for the 100th anniversary of the October 13, 1917 miracle of the sun at Fatima. There are any number of prayer options to be found online. Here are a few more ideas, any of which may be prayed in conjunction with the Rosary, Our Lady’s specific Fatima request. Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us!

Novena Option 1 (from a reader):

Fatima Chaplet

On the large beads of the Rosary:

My Jesus, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love you. I ask pardon for all those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope, and do not love you.

Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore you profoundly. I offer you the body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences, by which he is offended. Through the infinite merits of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg for the conversion of poor sinners.

On the small beads of the Rosary:

Jesus, Mary, Joseph, I love you, save souls!

End with three Glory Be’s.

Novena Option 2 (from a reader):

Our Lady of the Rosary, ask your Son Jesus to have mercy on us, and to give us His Peace.
Help us to heed your warning at Fatima, that we amend our lives and stop offending God, who is already offended by our sins. Our Lady of Fatima, Queen of the Holy Rosary, pray for us. Amen

Novena Option 3:

Most Holy Virgin, who has deigned to come to Fatima to reveal to the three little shepherds the treasures of graces hidden in the recitation of the Rosary, inspire our hearts with a sincere love of this devotion, so that by meditating on the mysteries of our redemption that are recalled in it, we may gather the fruits and obtain the conversion of sinners, the conversion of Russia, and this favour that I so earnestly seek, (name your intention) as well as the promotion of the Fatima message in my country and around the world, for the greater glory of God, for your own honour, and for the good of all people. Amen

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be to the Father …

Litany of Our Lady of Fatima:

Our Lady of Fatima, pray for our dear country.

Our Lady of Fatima, sanctify our clergy.

Our Lady of Fatima, make our Catholics more fervent.

Our Lady of Fatima, guide and inspire those who govern us.

Our Lady of Fatima, cure the sick who confide in thee.

Our Lady of Fatima, console the sorrowful who trust in thee.

Our Lady of Fatima, help those who invoke your aid.

Our Lady of Fatima, deliver us from all dangers.

Our Lady of Fatima, help us to resist temptation.

Our Lady of Fatima, obtain for us all that we lovingly ask of thee.

Our Lady of Fatima, help those who are dear to us.

Our Lady of Fatima, bring back to the right road our erring brothers.

Our Lady of Fatima, give us back our ancient fervour.

Our Lady of Fatima, obtain for us pardon of our manifold sins and offences.

Our Lady of Fatima, bring all men to the feet of thy Divine Child.

Our Lady of Fatima, obtain peace for the world.

O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Let us Pray: O God of infinite goodness and mercy, fill our hearts with a great confidence in Thy dear Mother, whom we invoke under the title of Our Lady of the Rosary and our Lady of Fatima, and grant us by her powerful intercession all the graces, spiritual and temporal, which we need. Through Christ our Lord. Amen

Do not let your lack of attention rob the world of much-needed sanctification…

Isaiah 55:6-9 Seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake their way, and the unrighteous their thoughts; let them return to the Lord, that he may have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

“O my beloved! What sorrow I feel in my heart over all those who refuse my gift of mercy! Increase your prayers and sacrifices in the Divine Will for the sake of those who are in such grave spiritual danger. By this I do not necessarily mean that you need to do more—although you could—but I mean that you can do more in the Divine Will. That is, be more conscious of living each moment in the Divine Will. You have no idea what this accomplishes in the spiritual realm. Then keep this thought before you and do everything together with me as my Mother did. Let me find in you the sweet echo of her life lived in my holy Will. Never for one second did she depart from it, so that her every breath and heartbeat sanctified, purified, and glorified. Do this my children. I am near to you. Do not let your lack of attention rob the world of much-needed sanctification.”

O my Jesus! In the Divine Will grant me the grace to live each small moment in your will. Let your Mother’s sweet song resound in me and through me. May the Divine Will enter into and flow through everything I do, every beat, breath and movement, every thought, word, and work. Here I am Lord, I come to live in your most holy and Divine Will. Fiat! Amen.

In preparation for he 100th anniversary of my Mother’s appearance at Fatima, would you observe a time of reflection in the nine days preceding it…

Nehmiah 8:14 And they found it written in the law, which the Lord had commanded by Moses, that the people of Israel should live in booths (tabernacles) during the festival of the seventh month.

“Beloved, the Festival of Booths begins this year on October 4. In preparation for the 100th anniversary of my Mother’s appearance at Fatima, would you observe a time of reflection in the nine days preceding it, beginning on the first day of the Festival? Let each one decide how they will observe the novena—by fasting, prayer, or by retreating from the world. In some way, let my children retreat to the tabernacle of their hearts and pray for the coming of the kingdom, for the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart, for the conversion of sinners, and for reparation to be made to my much-wounded heart. Oh my children, do me this honor! I greatly desire it and the world greatly needs it. I will bless even the smallest effort. Do all in the Divine Will, through the Flame of Love, on behalf of everyone and you will accomplish far more than you can imagine. You do not know how much I long to reign in men’s hearts. What joy when I do! Help me!”

O my Jesus, FIAT! Grant each of us the grace to know what is the best way for us to participate—as our daily duty allows. In the Divine Will, through the Flame of Love, bless our efforts to cooperate with your unimaginable graces for the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart and the coming of the Kingdom of the Divine Will! O Jesus! I long for this with the longing of our Mother, which irresistibly drew you to earth at your Incarnation. Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus—come to reign in our hearts! Amen.

(Note: The beginning of the Festival of Booths, October 4, also corresponds with the feast of the Transitus (passing to eternity) of St. Francis of Assisi. May he assist us as we contemplate what form our nine days of preparation will take. One suggestion is that we spend some time learning how to live more fully in the Divine Will through the writings of Luisa Piccarreta. Please see my page, “Divine Will Resources” for more information. May His kingdom come and come quickly!)

If I showed you what the world would look like without your prayers, you would be appalled…

Wisdom 18:22 He conquered the wrath not by strength of body, not by force of arms, but by his word he subdued the avenger, appealing to the oaths and covenants given to our ancestors.

“My beloved children, do not make the grave error of discounting the effect of your prayers, your humble prayers, on the divine wrath. Already my much-wounded heart has been appeased through your little offerings. How can I encourage you in this? How can I convince you that your efforts are having their effect? If I showed you what the world would look like without your prayers, you would be appalled. So, if your prayers seem to go unanswered, do not give up. It is only that I have applied your prayers to a higher purpose. Then offer me your disappointment, wrapped in the words: ‘Jesus I trust in you. Save souls!’ I tell you, even in your disappointment you will be filled with joy!”

O my Lord, Blessed Trinity of Love, how can we begin to comprehend your love and mercy? That even your ‘no’ is a ‘yes’—yes to a much greater good. In the Divine Will, help me to always respond as I do now—Jesus I trust in you. Save souls! Amen.

Offer prayers and sacrifices in the Divine Will, and the duration and intensity may yet be lessened…

Hosea 9:2 Threshing-floor and wine vat shall not feed them, and the new wine shall fail them.

“My beloved, see I make all things new. The old ways of sin are passing away. The new ways of righteousness have been conceived and await the hour of birth. The labor will be fierce but do not despair. In due time, joy will make the days of sin a faded memory, a dream that one awakes from and is overjoyed that it is over. Be patient. Pray for strength and KNOW that the labor is finite. Offer prayers and sacrifices in the Divine Will, and the duration and intensity may yet be lessened. Children I am near and I eagerly await our new life together.”

Blessed Trinity of Love, I praise and thank you in the Divine Will in the name of everyone for all you are doing to bring about the kingdom of the Divine Will. In the Divine Will, through the Flame of Love I offer all my prayers and sufferings, as well as every shard of suffering ever endured so that your kingdom may come quickly and that the labor will be of short duration and less intense than we deserve. Jesus, give us strength and hope. We place all our trust in you. Save souls! Amen.

Addendum…

A reader asked for suggestions on how to include our Father in our family events, especially when family members may be away from the Church, indifferent, or hostile to the faith. Here were my suggestions, which I thought added clarity to the post and might benefit others.

Perhaps one person silently inviting the Father, Son, and Spirit into the gathering or event in the Divine Will on behalf of all present, is the best we can do. For God it will be enough for now, as we pray for the conversion of those in our spiritual territory. As for grace at meals, if others are offended by the grace we offer, we can suggest a moment of silent gratitude and silently pray our grace in the Divine Will on behalf of all there. We need to be creative I think. But let us make a conscious effort to remember our Father in all our activities. And if we forget–and we will forget–perhaps three Our Fathers in reparation could be prayed at the end of the day. Our guardian angels can be enlisted to help us remember. They just need to be asked!

Imitate the first disciples and pray for boldness…

Acts 4:29-31 And now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.’ When they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.

“My children, imitate the first disciples and pray for boldness. Pray also for courage and fortitude. The Holy Spirit waits to be asked for a new infilling of these gifts, which you received in a measure at your Confirmation. Do not be afraid. I mean to work new wonders in this age, that all may believe. Yet happy are you who have not seen, and yet believe. Your faithfulness will be counted in your favor. Children, in your boldness do not forget kindness and humility. Imitate our Mother who always spoke the truth with kindness, gentleness, and abject humility, pointing always toward God and never to herself. That is why there is so little about her in Scripture. Yet I am making her more well-known to this generation because her merits, virtues, and perfections deserve to be emulated. Be bold like your Mother, who did not let fear keep her from the foot of the cross.”

My beloved Jesus, I praise you for the glorious gift and example our Mother is to us. May her prayers on our behalf win for us new boldness, humility, fortitude, courage, kindness, gentleness, and a new infilling of all the gifts of the Holy Spirit, her glorious and most generous Spouse. We ask all these prayers in the Divine Will. Amen.

St. Faustina’s Prayer for Priests…

I found this today and thought it tied in well with the previous message as well as the coming celebration of the Feast of Divine Mercy. God’s timing is glorious!

Prayer for Priests
(St. Faustina’s Diary, 1052)

O my Jesus, I beg You on behalf of the whole Church: Grant it love and the light of Your Spirit, and give power to the words of priests so hardened hearts may be brought to repentance and return to You, O Lord. Lord, give us holy priests; you yourself maintain them in holiness. O Divine and Great High Priest, may the power of Your mercy accompany them everywhere and protect them from the devil’s traps and snares which are continually being set for the souls of priests. May the power of Your mercy, O Lord, shatter and bring to naught all that might tarnish the sanctity of priests, for You can do all things.

Stoking the Flame of Love…

Blessings all. Every day there seems to be a whole new batch of people to pray for, more souls to put on the list. I know I’m not the only one who is feeling this way. Yesterday I had a beautiful experience.

For a long time now, every time someone has asked for prayers, I have immediately placed them in the Flame of Love of our Immaculate Mother. Long ago I made our Mother the administrator of my prayers. Mostly, I spend my daily prayers for the salvation of souls, placing all my needs as well as all those God has given me to pray for in the Flame of Love. What may seem overwhelming, the sheer volume of prayer needs, our Mother makes not just possible, but easy.

Yesterday I was placing people and prayer needs into Her Flame of Love, and I had a beautiful impression that, not only was the Flame undiminished by the large number of requests, but in fact, I was feeding the Flame of Love with each one. I thought of a steam engine, with me shovelling coal into the fire that grew hotter and brighter with each shovelful.

I found this very comforting. Jesus once said to Elizabeth, “If you do not come to Me, how then can I bestow My graces upon you? The fullness of grace is stored in my heart. My heart is an unending source of love.” Jesus wants us to give him our needs, especially souls. Our Mother too thirsts for them. When we give souls to Jesus through the Flame of Love, that furnace of love grows and grows, until the day when it is brought to fruition. We hasten that day with our prayers.

So, let us not be intimidated by the ever-increasing number of prayer needs, but let us continually stoke the Flame of Love by giving them all to Mary, linking our daily duty and our sacrifices to our prayers in the Divine Will for the glory of God.

May God be praised now and forever!
