Call to prayer…

Friends, oh the days we are in! I just want to remind everyone of the necessity of praying for those who will die suddenly, especially those unprepared to meet their Creator. In this year of mercy, let us not neglect our Chaplet of Mercy. That 5 minutes could be the most important 5 minutes of your day to someone who is in danger of eternal separation from God. I always add this prayer at the end of the chaplet.

Merciful Jesus, lover of souls, I beseech you by the agonies of your most Sacred Heart and by the sorrows of your Immaculate Mother to wash clean in your blood the sinners of the whole world who are in their final agony, especially those on their way to eternal damnation and who are to die this day. Heart of Jesus who suffered death’s agony, have mercy on these poor souls. Amen.

  1. Peli, I was going to leave this comment during the discussion of St. Joseph some days ago; but I’m glad I didn’t, because it fits much better here. The Pious Union of St. Joseph for the Suffering and Dying is a ministry of the Servants of Charity, an order founded by St. Luigi Guanella (my family knows several of these priests personally, and they are incredible). Membership is free, and the sole requirement is to daily say the following prayer: “Oh, St. Joseph, foster father of Jesus Christ and true spouse of the Virgin Mary, pray for us and for those who suffer and for those who will die this day (or night).” For more information, here is the link:

In this Year of Mercy, I encourage everyone here to please prayerfully consider joining.

  2. There’s the passage from St Faustina’s diary where our Lord asks that at the hour of mercy we meditate on his passion even if only for a short time. I’m usually at work at 3pm each day so I set a reminder on my computer so that at 3pm I pause from my work for a minute or two and briefly meditate on his passion, offering prayers for all who will die that day especially for all who are in most need of his mercy. Then on my drive home later in the day I will pray the entire chaplet for the dying. Thank you for this post!!! I will add this prayer that you posted to my 3pm prayers for the dying. May the Lord’s peace be with you always!!!

  3. I found the diary entries that I had commented on earlier:
At three o’clock, implore My mercy, especially for sinners; and, if only for a brief moment, immerse yourself in My Passion, particularly in My abandonment at the moment of agony. This is the hour of great mercy … In this hour I will refuse nothing to the soul that makes a request of Me in virtue of My Passion. (Diary 1320).

As often as you hear the clock strike the third hour immerse yourself completely in My mercy, adoring and glorifying it, invoke it’s omnipotence for the whole world, and particularly for poor sinners, for at that moment mercy was opened wide for every soul. In this hour you can obtain everything for yourself and for others for the asking; it was the hour of grace for the whole world – mercy triumphed over justice.

Try your best to make the Stations of the Cross in this hour, provided that your duties permit it; and if you are not able to make the Stations of the Cross, then at least step into the chapel for a moment and adore, in the Most Blessed Sacrament. My Heart, which is full of mercy: and should you be unable to step into chapel. immerse yourself in prayer there where you happen to be, if only for a very brief instant. (Diary 1572)

    1. Using that as a template, I came up with this prayer:

Beloved Jesus, I immerse myself completely in Your mercy, adoring and glorifying it, invoking its omnipotence for the whole world, and particularly for poor sinners, for at this hour mercy was opened wide for every soul. As this is the hour when mercy triumphed over justice, I implore you O Lord, to grant me the favour of… Jesus I trust in you. Amen.

  4. Jesus promises to bring those saved souls by our said chaplets of Divine Mercy to meet us at our deathbed. They will be our joy! Jesus begs us to be a best friend of Dying souls…by saying the chaplet of Divine Mercy for them.

Jesus, through Mary I offer you the chaplet of Divine Mercy for dying souls.
for those young people who commit suicide, or get killed unexpectedly or need it mostly.
O Mary, Mother of Divine Mercy
O True Mother of dying souls
Save them from the fires of hell
    free them from demons
    force satan to leave them
give them a peace of mind
    bless them
    sanctify them
Lead them to Jesus of Divine Mercy
May they praise Divine Mercy for ever

  5. I have learned to dedicate the fourth decade of sorrowful Mysteries of Holy Rosary to the 1st ten stations of the Cross.

I also dedicate each bead in the 5th decade of Divine Mercy Chaplet for the dying.

1st bead. The first nail in the hand of Jesus.
For the sake of His Sorrowful Passion, have Mercy on us and on the whole world. For those who receive news today via doctors, or court cases or terrorists or other murderers that they are about to die.
2nd bead. The second nail in the hand of Jesus; when His arm/shoulder was dislocated to make his Hand reach the place where the nail would fit.
For the sake of His Sorrowful Passion, have Mercy on us and on the whole world. For those who live past the diagnosis or sentence or threat now knowing they are going to die.

3rd bead. The third nail piercing Jesus feet which were forced down through the cramps caused in His body from the first two nails. For the sake of His Sorrowful Passion, have Mercy on us and on the whole world. For those on the final stretch to the moment of death.

4th bead. The Cross is lifted up causing so much agony that it must have felt like liquid fire coursing through the very veins of Jesus in His entire body.
For the sake of His Sorrowful Passion, have Mercy on us and on the whole world. For those whose souls are taking flight at the moment of death, often in great fear of the unknown. Fear not dying souls, Jesus has gone on before you to prepare a place for you.

5th bead. As soon as Jesus catches His breadth. His first concern hanging in deadly agony on the Cross. “Father forgive them, they know not what they do.”
For the sake of His Sorrowful Passion, have Mercy on us and on the whole world.
Fear not dying souls. Jesus has already asked God to pardon us all. Ask Jesus to save you.

6th bead. Jesus stays silent when one thief hanging next to Him joins in the mockers around Him. But He responds to the thief who asks Him to ‘remember me when You come into Your Kingdom. For the sake of His Sorrowful Passion, have Mercy on us and on the whole world.
Yes Jesus forgives all at the 5th bead and each one in particular who asks for His Mercy at the 6th bead. Fear not dying souls, just ask for Mercy and it will be given to you too.

7th bead. Jesus sees His mother and His beloved disciple. ‘Woman, behold your son. Son, behold your mother.’ Jesus can’t bear to leave us orphaned, He gives us His perfect mother. For the sake of His Sorrowful Passion, have Mercy on us and on the whole world.
Fear not dying souls. Jesus has ensured you are not without a mother to pray for you. Call on her. Mother come, Mary come; I am so frightened and alone. Help me and save me mama.

8th bead. Jesus sees he has nothing left to give. He prays He may find more strength to suffer if necessary for the sake of sinners. “I thirst for souls.”
For the sake of His Sorrowful Passion, have Mercy on us and on the whole world.
Fear not dying souls. Jesus already asked for more suffering if that was required to save you. Heavenly Father did not permit it should be required. You are Redeemed. Thank God for Jesus. Jesus has picked up the I Owe yoU tab for your cherished soul. Just ask for His pardon, you are saved.

9th bead. There are no words created for how Jesus felt when He suffered the loss of His Fathers presence just before He died. “Father why have You forsaken Me.”
For the sake of His Sorrowful Passion, have Mercy on us and on the whole world.
Fear not dying souls. God permitted Jesus to feel the very depths of loss, like we humans feel sometimes, so He could reach us even when we are as low as the very gates of hell. He has gone that far to Redeem us, Rescue us, Restore us.

10th bead. “Into Thy hands, I commend My Spirit.”
For the sake of His Sorrowful Passion, have Mercy on us and on the whole world.
Fear not dying souls. This moment is a mystery and belongs to Blessed Mother in union with Holy Spirit when she became the Mediatrix for all Gods Children united in heart, mind and soul with Jesus, the fruit of her womb for our salvation. Praised be Jesus and Mary.
