Those who live in the Spirit will never be at home in the world, and indeed the world will hate them…

Romans 8:5-8 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For this reason the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law—indeed it cannot, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

“Beloved children, make every effort to live always in the Spirit. Let the flesh serve the Spirit, for to deny the Spirit in favour of the flesh is death. Submit your mind and your heart in all things to God. This is the way of life and peace. Those who live in the Spirit will never be at home in the world, and indeed the world will hate them. Do not let this disturb you, for your home in heaven is waiting for you. There you will know with surpassing certainty that you belong. Therefore live each moment as if you are already there. In this way, you will have no sorrow, no fear. All will seem so small and temporary. This sojourn in a foreign land is your test, my children. Are you with me or against me? Live in the Spirit, for the Spirit, and through the Spirit and you will begin your heaven on earth. Be at peace, my children, no matter what happens. Shalom.”

Heavenly Father, Sweet Jesus, Blessed Spirit of Love, we praise and thank you for making heaven available to us while in exile. Help us to put to death all that is earthly and live always in the Spirit, for the Spirit, and through the Spirit. Send us your grace so that we can overcome all the temptations of the flesh that assail us. Help us to live only and always in your will. We love you, we praise you, and we thank you through the Flame of Love of our Blessed Mother. Amen.

  1. Peli,
This is so apropos for our time. C.S. Lewis said aim for heaven and you will get a little earth mixed in. Aim for earth and you will get neither. God’s blessings and peace to all now and forever.

  3. This is my first time responding, I think it necessary. We are living in a time of great temptations from the evil one, very sutle and knows our weakness and in this sometimes is very hard to discern. only in constant prayer and living in His presence with , and in and through the spirit can we overcome these temptations. Like I said in weakness and loneliness our minds or imaginations can fool and deceive us. that’s why scriptures says take every thought captivate to the obedience of Christ Jesus. Our helmet of salvation. We must know and believe Heaven is our eternal home and we must suffer in this journey to be strong to put to death all fleshy desires no matter how old or young. we must be honest with our self to admit our jealousies, our pride, self importance, and so on. and bring these to death at the cross with Jesus and asking our Blessed mother to send us the flame of Love to purify and make us holy. let us keep Rms 8;5-8 forever in our memory. Pray for me.

  4. Wanted to thank everyone for their prayers for my preemie granddaughter. A sudden turn around and she is doing better. My youngest daughter told my oldest to ask the Dr about a milk allergy. Odd since my oldest is using breast milk. Low and behold the Dr thinks its a milk allergy. They will try to start feeding her again with a soy milk. I am happy because I can only imagine how it feels to feel like your starving …I know lots of people around the world go through this everyday without food. (Just to clarify, she is being fed thru IV in vein but no food allowed in the tummy, so she feels hungry) I ask you to continue to pray because I know with all our prayers God is working his miracles! Thank you all so much!

  5. Having come back from the Flame of Love Conference which opened on the day of the disastrous Supreme Court ruling I have to tell you that I came back with a real sense of urgency- somehow the ruling just made what we have all been talking about happening real. It is going to get very bumpy out here. Our homes really are in Heaven and we have to stay, as Johnette Benkovich talked about at the conference, in the present moment where God is. We also need to speak out loud the Word of God which is why this blog is so valuable! We need to keep our eyes on Jesus and the Rosary, our lifelines, in our hands!

  6. As always the Lord comes through with the right message just when we most need it. Like everyone else, I’ve been praying and thinking and interceding and begging the Lord for some guidance in this. Especially with my own family who embrace every new horror that comes along. I asked the Lord what do I do if they bring it up? What do I say? How do I respond. I believe He told me “say: I have no words.” and then, to quote from the beautiful old spiritual Balm in Gilead, “if you cannot speak like Peter, if you cannot preach like Paul, just tell the love of Jesus and say He died for all”–I was blown away by the beauty and simplicity of it. Just tell the love of Jesus. Hardened hearts will not be argued with or pleaded with or explained to–just tell the love of Jesus and say He died for ALL. Thank you Lord.

    1. Ann, I truly believe the time for words has passed and the only Word we need now is the Living Word, Jesus Christ. But when we have that one Word, we have everything! Alleluia!

  7. I should have added, after I got this lovely insight from the Lord I read this new message and was so grateful! I thought of the next verse to the spiritual: “Sometimes I get discouraged, and think my work’s in vain, then the Holy Spirit revives my soul again”

  9. Thanks Pelianito. Alleluia indeed! Yes I too think the time for words has passed. At my Holy Hour this morning I joined in the breviary prayers at noon with the sisters and it was all about St Peter and Paul!! And it seemed a confirmation of the “word” I got yesterday about the verse from Balm in Gilead.

Cannot wait to listen to the conference on the FOL.

  10. Thank you Peli…. again! Your blog has sustained me whilst God has indeed been dragging me out of the world, without your messages I really don’t know how I would have coped, or indeed without the Peli family : ) You are most definately being used to give us our “Manna” in the desert. Praise GOD for HIS goodness and mercy!

TA Phyllis’s suggestion sounds like a good one. Soy is often a GMO crop and can inhibit thyroid function. It also has a high alluminium content. it may be wise to do some research on this. I hope your precious little one picks up, will be praying. God bless!

  11. Thanks Mick we need each other to keep moving forward. Like Joni said when God starts to separate us from the world it’s not always easy especially when God starts to show us our real motives. Pride in a certain ministry or even idolatry. I need to pray always for humility to listen and obey. Mick God Bless your Mom it means forever youthful and full of grace. As old as the name is I’m glad I have it. Mick must be Michael strong with God.

  12. Great article. I can attest to praying in the Spirit–the Gift of Tongues. It is a wonderful help when you are “speechless”… You can trust that whatever you need is being requested perfectly. If you don’t know how to use this Gift, start with “baby tongues” as I did. God will help you to mature in it!

    http://www.charismanews.com/us/50315-the-life-saving-power-of-speaking-in-tongues

When the hairy-one was trying to literally kill me once, prayer in the Spirit lead me to, “Jesus, Mary, Joseph, I love you, save souls…” This prayer drove him further and further from me–the faster and more of these prayers I said, the more quickly he fled.
Just reminders to those here as the darkness surrounds us all the more…

    Pray and stay strong.

    1. I just spent two days at the Family Life Conference at Lac St. Anne in Alberta. Keynote speaker was none other than Dr. Scott Hahn. We were blessed to have three talks from him that first day. Second day speaker was Dr. Edward Sri. I cannot tell you what a blessing these two days were for me. I could not attend the rest of the conference due to family commitments, but I was rejuvenated in spirit in those two days, praised be Jesus! But I daresay equally as important as the speakers was the abundant blessing of being with 1000 or so faithful Catholics (perhaps they were not all Catholic by rite, but they were Catholic in spirit or they wouldn’t have been there). It felt very safe, like a vast family gathering with relatives I have never met. I was refreshed in spirit. Praised be Jesus!

It also served to give me great hope that no matter how bad things get, there are good faithful souls out there, people I can count on. I really felt upheld by God in this knowledge. It was his way of reassuring me that in the storms we face daily and in the greater Storm to come, HE WILL BE WITH US.

Another blessing of the conference was that the Thursday morning Mass was Ukrainian rite, which I had never seen before. What majesty and reverence! What riches of symbolism! Wow! If you’re like me, you don’t often consider the Eastern rite churches, but they too are our true brothers and sisters in full communion, the other lung of the church as St. JPII called them. It was beautiful!

Refreshed in spirit. Thank you Jesus! Praise you Lord of all creation!

  14. I find myself lately running into people in the church who have different views than my conservative ones. Yesterday after praying the seven sorrows of Mary with this person, she began to open up on what her beliefs were, mostly how the church has been wrong in the past and now we have to accept the way the world is going..! I probably should have been quiet, especially after she said she was a nurse, but I felt I needed to get the truth out in the open, to defend it. Of course, she didn’t see it.
As I read the posts here, I wonder if I should just refrain from speaking when I feel moved to talk back……..
What do you think. When it comes to letting someone state openly a lie about our faith, should we keep quiet even if it has to do with current issues ?

    1. Rickie, I think this will be happening more and more. However, I think this does not mean we just lash out, but in the power of the Holy Spirit that we “speak the truth with love”. Sometimes it can even be asking a question: By what authority do you say that the Church is wrong? People think that because they think something it is true. Come up with some good questions that expose their faulty reasoning. That way you are challenging them not to buy the lies of the enemy. In one of my messages our Lord says to learn from our Mother, “whose rebukes were as gentle as a caress”. I think of that often. Also you can read this message from a few weeks ago: http://pelianito.stblogs.com/2015/05/26/the-tongue-is-an-easy-tool-for-the-devil-and-therefore-must-be-guarded-with-great-diligence/ . May the Holy Spirit guide into all truth.

  15. Yes, Peli, I love that response, “By what authority do you say that the Church is wrong?” It has been a very challenging week in the USA since our Supreme Court decision on changing the definition of marriage. So many people are always saying, ‘I think this or I think that”. I learned a while ago it doesn’t matter what I think but what does the church say! Sadly, even some church leaders have been giving their “I think” opinions instead of true teachings of the church. More than ever, we need to know what the Church “thinks”. I sadly see a big schism happening in the church but I know that often times the wound needs to be split open to get rid of the infection. Come Holy Spirit!

  16. Thank you, I referred back to the other post……….saying the truth with love. My words may be lacking the tenderness at times.
I’m praying I can learn how to listen to the Spirit before I say
anything. As you say, loving is the most important thing. People have strong opinions it seems, so that is what makes me want to strike back so to speak with the righteous answer.
I love to be able to read and post here.

    Matthew:
{7:24} Every one therefore that heareth these my words, and doth them, shall be likened to a wise man that built his house upon a rock,
{7:25} And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell not, for it was founded on a rock.
{7:26} And every one that heareth these my words and doth them not, shall be like a foolish man that built his house upon the sand,
{7:27} And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell, and great was the fall thereof.
    ————————————————————————-
If we build our foundation (for our home) in Jesus, then our home is in Heaven where Jesus is. Sitting a the right hand of God.

Added note: On communicating with others I let the Love God do the speaking. When I try to rebuttal others I make more of a mess. Sometimes its better for me to be silent and say a prayer.

  19. Peli, I wanted to thank you for the link to the 24 Hours of the Passion, which link you posted on Charlie’s site in the comment section to your post, “Stormy Dreams.” My two older sons and I will be doing the twenty-first hour today.

I was wondering if you have a link to The Rounds of the Soul in the Divine Will, written by Luisa; or if you know where I can purchase a copy of an approved English translation. I’m having a difficult time finding The Rounds.

    Like

    1. There is one here Mick, although I’m not sure it is officially approved. However, the rounds may be made spontaneously. I often do it while driving and place my I love you and I thank you and I give you glory and praise for (whatever I see or whatever comes to mind). You can focus on the Father’s Fiat of Creation, or Jesus’ Fiat of Redemption keeping him company in his life and passion, or the Holy Spirit’s Fiat of Sanctification for all the ways He has been active throughout history and for the future Kingdom of the Divine Will. Do this in the Divine Will in the name of everyone from Adam to the last man to give God the glory that all creatures owe him.

  21. Shane–I so appreciate your comment about rebuttals turning out to make a mess. I am in the middle of this issue right now with a son very antagonistic to Christianity but Catholicism particularly. The other night he was going on at great length–he is very articulate, very bright, very intense, and has that left wing commentator technique of “shouting down” without shouting if you know what I mean. My husband was right along with him in the discussion and I simply didn’t enter in. I wanted to. It was burning inside me to say “Wake up. The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand” or just “your dead wrong” but instead I got up and went to bed. Felt so cowardly, so upset with myself. Said Rosaries on and off during the night. I haven’t resolved this conundrum. I keep asking the Holy Spirit to give me words but I am tongue tied. Perhaps He is protecting me from making a mess. Peli said earlier here that the time for words may be past. A priest that I regard as very holy said the same thing. He added, the important thing is not to lose your peace. I guess I should remember that huh?

    1. Ann you have to discern if there is a possibility of a reasonable discussion. If it begins with “shouting down” I would say that the other party is not open to what you have to say. It takes humility to have a reasonable discussion. If pride is the driving force it I think we can say it is a poor beginning and will not end well. Pray for God’s opportunities to speak and pray that hearts will be softened to hear the message. Maintain your peace, joy and love. God help us all.

  22. Anne,

I will look up the book “The Believer’s Authority by Kenneth Hagin”. I am always up for a good read. Thank you.

    Ann,

We have to know we not alone. I do the same with my family I just keep quite and the Holy Spirit its up to you if you want me to say anything. I just keep praying!! I am not a St Paul and know what to say. Maybe someday I might require the gift of talking through the Holy Spirit.

    Peli,
Thank you for the references on foundation in your blog.
