2 John 1:5-6 Let us love one another. For this is love, that we walk according to his commandments.
“Beloved child, what have I told you? What is your inheritance? It is love, pure, simple love. When you love you are living in the will of God for God is love. I make it simple. It is you who complicate things. You must distill your life down to its purest element—love. This is the essence of your life. Love God in himself and in your neighbor. This is the key to peace and joy. If you have no peace or joy, see what you have placed in the way of pure love. What is blocking the path? When you have love, you have everything. Then do not cling to obstacles, but if anything is keeping you from living a life of pure love, purge it. So often what you cling to is the very thing that ties you down. Cut the chains and you will soar! My children, now is not the time to cling to what is useless. Cling to me with both hands—hands unencumbered with what cannot save you. Come to me and be free.”
Heavenly Father, we have so many things to distract us from what is pure. Grant us every grace to see what is good in our lives and to purge what leads us away from you. Your love is all we need. In your mercy, help us to see what glory awaits us when we cling only to you. Amen.
(Note from Pelianito: Our daily duty is often a vehicle God uses to have us live out our call to love in a heroic manner. I believe, the Lord in this message is referring not to those things, but to other distractions that keep us from living a life of authentic love.)
